Get Your Book Done! Workshop

If you are struggling to finish your book, you’re not alone. It seems every writer, successful and aspiring, contends with the unending barrage of conspiring obstacles that seem bent on thwarting every book project. While it may seem that life is determined to stop you from getting your book done, things are often not what they seem.

If you nodded your head at the above paragraph, there’s good news for you. You may find this hard to believe, but it is quite possible to get a book out of your head, no matter your situation or circumstance. It all starts with energizing the project with your natural commitment, and personalizing the process to you and your life.

Does a dog need to motivate itself to chase a Frisbee? Many people try to “motivate themselves” to write. They mostly fail. Other writers try to figure out a way to make writing a book easy. This is also an ineffective strategy. It’s no different than trying to find a shortcut to the summit of a mountain.

The whole secret: if you want to get yourself naturally motivated to finish your book and put the structures in place to ensure it will win in the marketplace, just do the project backwards. That is to say, market the book first, and then write it. It doesn’t seem to make sense does it?  Well, consider this: becoming a successful author is only 20% writing and editing and 80% marketing. Focus on the marketing, and the writing will come easy.
